L'origine du nomWhere the name comes from
La Normandie, terre gauloise qui a pris un nom du Nord Normandy, a Gaulish land that took a name from the North

Usage shortens the name, and the land keeps it.
Four centuries after the crossing, another north.
Long before Normandy, there was Gaul. The tribes who lived there left their names on the map: Bayeux comes from the Baiocasses, Lisieux from the Lexovii, Évreux from the Eburovices, Avranches from the Abrincatui. Two thousand years later, they are still there.
Their learned class, the druids, held the knowledge of plants — and more than that. Caesar also credits them with the courses of the stars, the nature of things, and the settling of disputes between men: from the most concrete to the most abstract, held as one. He writes that they set none of it down, so their teaching would not spread among the people, and that it took up to twenty years to learn by heart what they passed on.
Rome suppressed them in the first century, and most of it went with them. Perhaps because knowledge you cannot read is power you cannot take. And power carries a duty: in the same forest, one tree gives its scent and the one beside it is poison.
Northmannia is the long form of the name this land came to carry: the land of the men of the North. Usage contracted it to Normannia, and later Normandy.
My ancestors left Normandy for Quebec in the colony's earliest years. They crossed toward a forest whose plants they knew nothing of. Four centuries later, I gather in the Laurentians — another north, and by now ours.
That is the thread this brand keeps: knowing the plants of a place. The druids held that knowledge in memory; I write it down — batch by batch.
They arrived in a forest they did not know. Four centuries later, it is mine. Alexandre Luminaris

La matière d'abord, la forme ensuite The material first, the form second
The heart of the brand is a species, a season, a batch. Incense, raw botanicals, teas and balms are only its forms. Everything comes from the same harvest and the same documentation.

Three conifers, three strengths of smoke. Slide the cursor: it is the order in which to meet them, from the pine that whispers to the spruce that takes the room.

Every species has its window, and some last only a few weeks. Tap a month to see what can be gathered then; the ochre line marks today.

Chaque lot a sa page Every batch has its own page
A batch number appears on every product. It leads to a page giving the species and its Latin name, the plant part, the harvest date, the area, the drying, and the notes taken that day. Nothing is reconstructed after the fact: the record is filled in at the time of gathering.

The shop is not open yet. The first resins are curing now, and they take the time they take. It will open when the batches are ready, and not before.
Batches are small and genuinely limited: one harvest, one season, one quantity. One email when there is something, and nothing the rest of the time.
